CFBISD Innovation Academy Leaders Try New Approaches to Reach Students
The Digital Learning Team continues the work in CFBISD Innovation Academy for its second year in a row with a new class of teachers. Throughout the year educators are invited to explore innovative strategies in a variety of professional development sessions with a focus on engaging and empowering students through a focus of instructional technology and creative practices.
“This type of professional learning is important in CFBISD because it allows teachers to try new approaches in their classrooms on a small scale,” said Jamie Nutt, Digital Learning Specialist. “The Innovation Academy hopes to serve as an incubator for student-centered learning environments.”
Innovators meet several times throughout the year, learning new strategies, collaborating with others across content areas and grade levels and then return to their campus to implement those strategies for effective change.
“I dream of helping my students to be future ready, and for many of them, that will involve coding, engineering, and robotics jobs,” said Jamie Shields, STEM teacher at Rainwater Elementary. “I hope to be able to offer flexible learning and tie our core content to real world coding and robotics along with the engineering method. I want my students to be able to relate what we are learning in class to their future and the real world outside our classroom.”
As the year moves forward, these innovative leaders will continue to play an important part in effective school leadership, examining current practices to best meet the needs of students.
"We not only look forward to how these educators will implement change in their classrooms, but also to witnessing their professional growth as they become catalysts for disseminating these strategies, fostering innovation, and mentoring others within their educational spaces," says Cirzy Gonzalez, Digital Learning Specialist.
The CFBISD Educational Foundation is a proud sponsor of the Innovation Academy.
