With colder temperatures already blowing into North Texas, CFBISD encourages families to bundle up and prepare for winter weather conditions. As always, the district closely monitors forecasts to determine whether adjustments to the school day are needed, prioritizing the safety of our students, staff and community.
In the event a decision is made to close or delay school, CFBISD will begin notifying families and staff as early as possible—no later than 6 a.m. Notifications will be sent using the following platforms:
- ParentSquare: Rapid phone call and text messaging system
- District website
- District social media (Facebook, Instagram and X)
- Local news media
How the Decision Is Made
District leadership evaluates multiple factors to determine whether schools can safely operate, including:
- Consultation with emergency officials: CFBISD joins regular emergency management calls with city and county partners, law enforcement, and weather experts.
- Road and sidewalk reports from transportation staff: Transportation teams assess road conditions firsthand and report any concerns.
- Facilities conditions: Staff monitor heating, electricity, water, and potential hazards across all campuses.
- Current and forecasted weather: Weather conditions are reviewed in the early morning hours, considering students and staff who begin traveling as early as 5 a.m.
- Nearby districts’ decisions: While each district is unique, collaboration provides a more complete picture of regional conditions.
How CFBISD Prepares
- Facilities: Crews monitor plumbing, electrical systems, and grounds before, during, and after freezing conditions. If schools close, staff inspect buildings once temperatures rise above freezing.
- Transportation: Buses undergo pre-trip inspections, including checks of heaters, lights, windshield wipers, and fluid levels. Fuel tanks are kept at least half full to prevent ice buildup.
