Three Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD varsity football teams will compete in the first round of UIL State Football Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 15. This marks the first time in more than 20 years that three CFBISD teams have advanced to the playoffs in the same year.
Newman Smith HS and Creekview HS secured the second and third seed, respectively, in District 6-5A. Both teams finished the regular season with an 8-2 record and will face off against Frisco ISD opponents this week. Newman Smith will host their playoff game at Standridge Stadium, while Creekview will travel to The Star in Frisco.
Head Coach Robert Boone and the Trojans will make their second consecutive playoff appearance, while Head Coach Dusty Ortiz and the Mustangs have achieved a remarkable turnaround, qualifying for the playoffs in Ortiz’s first year at Creekview. The Mustangs’ last playoff appearance was in 2021.
Ranchview HS clinched the third seed in their district with a come-from-behind victory over Lake Worth. The Wolves needed to win the game by nine points to qualify and ended up exceeding that score by 15 points. Head Coach Richard Leonard and the team will return to the playoffs for the first time since 2019.
“We are so proud of all of our teams and coaches,” said Renee Putter, CFBISD Director of Athletics. “We hope that everyone can come out and pack the stands at these games. Good luck in the UIL State Football Playoffs.”
