More than 75 retirees enjoyed a Thanksgiving lunch, fellowship with friends, and student performances at the CFB Retired School Personnel Luncheon on Nov. 17 at the CFBISD Multipurpose Facility.

Each year, the luncheon is an opportunity for retirees to stay connected with each other and the district after retirement.

“We are so thankful for our retired school personnel and the many years of service they dedicated to our students and schools,” said Dr. John Chapman, CFBISD Superintendent. “It is always a highlight of the holiday season for our current principals and administrators to see them again and catch back up. We are happy that we were able to get back together in person this year.”

Guests of the event enjoyed a Thanksgiving lunch consisting of turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, rolls, and dessert. Current CFBISD principals served the food and drinks to the retired personnel while district leadership plated the food.

Performance groups included the Newman Smith String Orchestra, a McCoy Elementary ensemble who played xylophones, dance students from Blalack and Field middle schools, and the R. L. Turner High School Symbany Show Choir.

Decorations for the event were created by elementary and middle school art students. Attendees were able to take the decorations home with them after the event.

“We hope this tradition continues for many years,” Chapman said. “The holidays are a time to be thankful for what we have and our employees, both past and present, are something we are extremely thankful for.”
