Parents and students learn life-saving skills at district’s Stop the Bleed training

In collaboration with the Carrollton Fire Department, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD Health Services hosted its annual "Stop the Bleeding" training last week. The training equipped parents and students with vital skills to control severe bleeding in emergency situations.

Equipped with a training kit, attendees practiced the critical steps of the national "Stop the Bleed" protocol. Instruction focused on recognizing life-threatening injuries, immediately applying direct pressure, using a tourniquet, and properly packing a wound. The session concluded with guidance on activating EMS.

"This training ensures our families are prepared for the unexpected,” said Sandra Lieck, CFBISD Health Services Director. “Every second counts during an emergency, and we want them to have the tools to act decisively.

The program enables individuals to become immediate first responders, providing the confidence and ability to save lives and potentially contribute significantly to overall community safety.

"We want every student and family member to be aware and educated on life-saving measures,” said Liz Binion, Director of Student Services.

The event was held at the district's Educational Service Division Complex (ESDC) and offered in English and Spanish to maximize community attendance. The district plans to continue offering these events to ensure the CFBISD community is trained and ready to respond to emergencies.
