The Newman Smith High School Interact Club, eight CFBISD elementary schools, Carrollton-Farmers Branch Rotary Club and the Plano Community Rotaract Club have partnered for an International Service Project that will send books across the border to Cozumel, Mexico and further south to Roatan, Honduras in April 2023.

In August and September, the three clubs collected and packed 260 boxes weighing 5,504.5 pounds with 14,202 books as well as additional school supplies. Eight CFBISD elementary schools – McCoy, Country Place, Farmers Branch, Carrollton, Stark, Freeman, Good and Furneaux – donated an amazing 11,712 books which accounted for more than 82% of the total books collected. 

“During 2020 and 2021, the Newman Smith High School Interact Club delivered 1,680 donated backpacks and school supplies to CFBISD elementary schools,” said Regina Edwards, CFB Rotary Club Board Member. “To return the favor, the staff members at the elementary helped with the Interact Club's International Service project.”

Their goal is to send 20,000 books along with school supplies. The NSHS Interact Club will be hosting three Halloween sales in October to pay for the school supplies with a fundraising goal of $2,500. They are also still collecting kindergarten-5th grade books in English and kindergarten-12th grade books in Spanish to reach the last 29% of this goal.
