Dan F. Long Middle School recently completed a successful shoe drive through Fund2Orgs from March 18 to May 17. The fundraiser collected a total of 875 pairs of shoes that will be distributed to developing countries. Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the campus.
“We had so many incredible people help with this fundraising effort,” said Marysol Gallegos, Long PTA President. “We appreciate all of the running clubs, businesses, PTAs, parents, teachers and community members who helped make this a success.”
Funds2Orgs is a non-profit that’s mission is to go beyond simply collecting shoes. The organization sends donated footwear to micro-entrepreneurs, particularly women, in 26 developing countries. This approach avoids “free” donations that can disrupt local economies. Instead, Funds2Orgs fosters sustainable commerce by providing affordable inventory for these entrepreneurs.
The impact of Funds2Orgs shoe drives is far-reaching. According to the organization, more than 4,000 micro-entrepreneurs have lifted themselves out of poverty thanks to these programs. From Haiti to Cambodia, Ghana to Guatemala, Funds2Orgs drives to empower individuals, spark economic growth in developing nations and divert millions of shoes from landfills.
