Fine arts students spread holiday cheer to senior living communities

Several Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD student musical ensembles brought holiday cheer to local senior living communities during the final weeks of the semester.

The performances, which included a variety of holiday music from choirs, jazz bands and orchestras, provided a joyful and exciting experience for the residents.

"There is a lot of research that documents both the benefits of music in older adults' lives and the benefits of connection with other people,” said Mark Rohwer, CFBISD director of fine arts. “Our teachers and students see performances for senior adults as both critically important and emotionally rewarding."

These annual performances are a cherished tradition within CFBISD fine arts, demonstrating the positive impact of music during this time of year.

"Performing holiday music for people who may not be able to get out to hear a concert on campus is so important,” said Arali Berumen, Vivian Field MS choir director. “We love to do these performances every year.”
