The Creekview High School Mustangs football team has broken a 21-game losing streak, starting the season with two impressive victories. The team's turnaround can be attributed in part to the leadership of first-year head coach Dusty Ortiz.
Ortiz, who began leading practices with the Mustangs in June, has quickly bonded with his players.
"Our kids are playing awesome," said Ortiz. "We couldn't be prouder. It says a lot to the kids that we have on the team and how well they've just welcomed us and all of our new ideas and our approaches."
Ortiz was recently named Coach of the Week by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. The award recognizes coaches who exemplify the best qualities of Texas high school football.
"We have such a great group of seniors that embrace our whole coaching staff, and I think that's going to be the setup for a great year," said Ortiz. “There's so much to be excited about at CFB, but it really starts with our leadership. You've got to have people around you, and we have some of the best people in the state working here at CFB."
The Mustangs will face off against Sunset High School on Friday night, September 13th, as they look to continue their winning streak. To view all CFBISD athletics game times, please visit the athletics website.
