Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD is proud to announce that our Student Nutrition Department has been awarded the prestigious “Cream of the Crop” award by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA).

The award, which is the highest tier of recognition available in the statewide Farm Fresh Challenge, was presented to department leadership last week during the Texas Association for School Nutrition (TASN) MegaCon Conference.

Presented by Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, the “Cream of the Crop” designation is reserved for school districts that demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to three specific goals:

  • Sourcing local: actively bringing Texas-grown fruits, vegetables, and products into school cafeterias
  • Agricultural education: implementing lessons that connect students to the origin of their food and the importance of Texas agriculture
  • Community engagement: utilizing social media and district communications to promote healthy nutritional habits

“This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire Student Nutrition team,” said CFBISD chef Yeshenia Gallardo. “Our goal is to provide more than just a meal, we want to fuel our students with fresh, local ingredients while teaching them the value of supporting our Texas farmers and ranching communities.”

The official certificate of recognition commends CFBISD for demonstrating leadership in serving local foods in school and childcare meals and for the district’s resolute commitment to building a “Farm Fresh” generation.

By prioritizing local procurement, CFBISD not only provides students with high quality, nutrient dense meals but also helps strengthen the local Texas economy.

CFBISD thanks its dedicated Student Nutrition professionals for ensuring our students have the very best on their plates every single day.
