For nearly two decades, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD’s fine arts programs have maintained a prestigious standard of excellence. For the 19th time, the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation has recognized the district as one of the Best Communities for Music Education, a distinction reserved for school systems that demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to providing every student with access to music.
Securing this designation is a rigorous process, as CFBISD underwent a comprehensive review conducted by the Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas, which evaluated everything from funding and graduation requirements to instructional time and community support. By meeting these high standards, the district continues to prove that the arts are not just an elective, but a core pillar of the student experience.
Currently, more than 5,000 middle and high school students are enrolled in fine arts music programs, while another 11,000 elementary students receive foundational music instruction.
“Maintaining this level of excellence for 19 years is a testament to a culture that truly values the arts,” said Mark Rohwer, director of fine arts. “This honor belongs to our tireless teaching staff, our visionary administration, and, most importantly, our students. We are proud to cultivate an environment that supports the hardest-working young musicians in the state of Texas.”
