Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD is celebrating another year of strong showing in the 2026 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) results, with several campuses demonstrating remarkable academic growth across key subjects. 

According to Commit Partnership’s Dallas County Preview data for spring 2026, CFBISD ranks among the top-performing school districts in Dallas County and led with an 80% Approaches Grade Level passing rate in fifth-grade reading. The district also ranks among the county’s top performers in grades 3-8 reading and math at the Approaches Grade Level passing rate. 

“As we celebrate these assessment gains, we recognize that the numbers represent much more than scores,” said Assistant Superintendent of Leadership and Learning Kim Holcomb. “They reflect the hard work of our students, the dedication of our teachers and staff, the support of our families, and our collective commitment to excellence.”

Superintendent Dr. Wendy Eldredge echoed that pride, noting that the metrics reflect deep structural support.

“These results affirm that our focus on high-quality instruction, targeted academic support and high expectations for all students is making a difference,” Eldredge said. “Incredible heart and effort went into this school year, and I am immensely proud of what our entire district community has achieved.”

Student performance on STAAR tests is separated into four categories:

• Masters Grade Level
• Meets Grade Level
• Approaches Grade Level
• Did Not Meet Grade Level

Students who perform at or above the Approaches Grade Level standard are considered to have met the state's passing requirement. This year, the district saw significant gains in the Approaches Grade Level for fourth- and fifth-grade math. Landry Elementary School achieved a 17% and 18% increase in fourth- and fifth-grade respectively. McWhorter Elementary also saw a 16% jump in both grades, and Blanton Elementary posted a 16% jump in fourth grade.

While Approaches Grade Level represents the state's passing standard, Meets Grade Level is widely considered the state’s benchmark for true academic readiness. The district continued to show significant growth at the Meets level across multiple grade levels and subjects. 

At the elementary level, 17 of the district's 21 elementary schools improved fourth-grade math performance at Meets Grade Level and above. Campuses leading those gains included Rainwater (25%), La Villita (19%), Good (18%), Carrollton (17%) and Blanton (16%) elementary schools. Fifth-grade math also improved districtwide, led by Rosemeade (16%), Kent (12%), Blanton (9%) and Las Colinas (9%) elementary schools.

Reading Language Arts (RLA) results also showed strong growth from 2025. Landry Elementary increased third-grade Meets Grade Level and above performance by 28%, while Good Elementary improved fourth grade by 27%. Blanton Elementary secured a 10% increase across both third and fifth grades.

One of the district's standout success stories is McWhorter Elementary School, which demonstrated gains across all STAAR-tested grade levels in both math and RLA. The campus improved RLA performance to Meets Grade Level and above in third grade (2%), fourth grade (9%), and fifth grade (12%), while math increased in third grade (12%), fourth grade (8%), and fifth grade (5%). This success is a testament to the hard work of the campus and the implementation of their Targeted Improvement Plan.

At the middle school level, the district saw gains in seventh- and eighth-grade RLA approaches and above of 2% and 3% respectively. Vivian Field Middle School improved Approaches Grade Level and above in RLA across all three grade levels, including a 7% increase in eighth grade. The campus also achieved a 10% increase in Meets Grade Level and above performance, the highest among district middle schools.   

In math, Barbara Bush and Field middle schools saw gains in Approaches Grade Level performance of 4% and 3%, while sixth- and eighth-grade math Meets Grade Level and above increased by 6% and 5%, respectively. Perry Middle School's Algebra I students achieved a 96% Meets Grade Level rate, a 13% increase from the previous year. Eighth grade social studies also saw gains districtwide in Meets and Masters level performance over the previous year.  

At the high school level, all five schools in CFBISD recorded an impressive 5% increase in both Approaches and Meets Grade Level performance in Algebra I. Creekview and Ranchview high schools led the way with gains of 12% and 10%, respectively. English I scores increased 6% in Approaches and 5% in Meets districtwide. Smith and Creekview high schools celebrated the highest increases in Approaches (7%) and Meets (6%). 

The district's Biology End-of-Course (EOC) passing rate increased to 90%, up 5% from the previous year. Additionally, 62% of students achieved Meets Grade Level, an 8% increase, with R. L. Turner High School posting the highest growth in Meets performance with an 11% increase. 

Early College High School achieved a perfect 100% passing rate in U.S. History, followed closely by Ranchview at 94%. Districtwide, U.S. History performance improved by 5% in the Meets performance level. ECHS saw 95% of its students Meet Grade Level, a 12% increase from the previous year, while Ranchview improved its Meets performance by 9% over last year.

“These results remind us that when we work together as one team, one vision, one goal, one family, extraordinary things happen for students,” Holcomb said.

There will be a direct link to their student’s scores with in-depth details on current and prior year state assessments. Please note that these results do not include final eighth-grade science scores, which will be released by the Texas Education Agency later this summer.
