CFBISD launches Institute of Technology and Engineering at Bush MS and Ranchview HS

Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD is excited to announce the launch of the Institute of Technology and Engineering (ITE) at Barbara Bush Middle School and Ranchview High School.

ITE offers a rigorous curriculum that combines hands-on learning with advanced coursework, designed to prepare students for future academic and career success in STEM fields. Students will engage in practical learning through cutting-edge labs, robotics, coding, and engineering design, with opportunities for real-world projects and industry connections.

The institute expands upon Ranchview’s existing Information Technology Academy, a part of CFBISD’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings, by incorporating the engineering program previously located at R.L. Turner High School. Bush, a feeder school for Ranchview, will offer ITE at the middle school level to provide a seamless pathway and give students an early start.

“The launch of our Institute of Technology and Engineering has exceeded expectations,” said Lacey Tilley, Bush principal. “We are incredibly proud of the accomplishments of our students and are excited for the future opportunities this institute will provide.”

For several years, Bush has provided engineering courses for students. Additionally, the school recently formed a Technology Student Association (TSA) team and has seen significant competitive success.

“During our pilot year, our TSA students achieved top rankings at both the state and national levels, demonstrating their talent, dedication and the strength of our program,” Tilley said.

Ranchview's TSA organization, though recently formed, has already claimed a national championship title. Meanwhile, Bush continues its national success, sending students to the competition in 2024 and qualifying again for 2025.

At the middle school level, students will learn the fundamentals of the engineering process and programming. In high school, students will select specialized pathways based on their interests, with all pathways offering industry-based certifications and practicum experiences. The program is designed to prepare students for college or careers upon graduation.

“We are thrilled to offer this new, expanded institute for our students beginning in the 2025-26 school year,” said Kara Miller, Ranchview principal. “These courses will allow our kids to grow on a whole new level and prepare them for careers after high school.”

Bush students who choose ITE as their CTE pathway during their eighth-grade high school planning will continue their studies at Ranchview. For students interested in participating in middle school, an online application is available on Barbara Bush’s website.

“These programs are incredibly unique and provide our students with targeted courses to accelerate their future careers,” said Leigh Ann Stone, CTE coordinator. “Our new institutes are flourishing, and we anticipate continued success.”
