THE PROCESS FOR SERVING ENGLISH LEARNERS
When parents indicate the use of a language other than English on the Home Language Survey during initial enrollment, the school district must conduct an assessment to determine the student’s level of English language proficiency. The results of the English language assessment are used to determine if Bilingual or English as a Second Language program services are appropriate and to inform instructional and program placement recommendations.
BILINGUAL EDUCATION
CFBISD implements research-based practices that promote biliteracy, bilingualism, and biculturalism. The primary goal is to prepare students to listen, speak, read, and write in two languages while developing an appreciation for diverse cultures.
ENGLISH AS SECOND LANGUAGE
English as a Second Language (ESL) is an English language instruction program provided for emergent bilingual students. The goal of the program is to ensure that English learners develop English proficiency in order to participate equitably in school, through research-based second language acquisition strategies.
