Academy of Media Arts & Technology (AMAT)

Animation Strand Courses

Principles of Arts, A/V Tech & Communications (9th)
Students will gain a basic knowledge of all AMAT strands. They will work in film, graphic design, animation, photography, and video game design.

Animation 1 (10th)
Students in Animation 1 will work basic animation skills by creating short animations. They will learn to apply the principles of animation to different types of animation such as 2D and stop motion. 

Animation 2 (11th)
Students in Animation 2 will expand their experiences in animation by creating group projects and working on more advanced animations. 

Video Game Design (Optional addition to 11th grade)
Students in Video Game Design gain knowledge on how to create fun and unique games. Students will spend the first their first semester learning how to code and what makes a game fun. Then in second semester student will create their own original games. 

Practicum in Animation (12th)
Students in Practicum of Animation will work on creating animation portfolios for higher education and industry. Students will also be working towards a certification in Toon Boom. Practicum also allows students the opportunity to work in internships their senior year. 

Audio Production Strand Courses

Principles of Arts, A/V Tech & Communications (9th)
Students will gain a basic knowledge of all AMAT strands. They will work in film, graphic design, animation, photography, and video game design.​

Digital Audio Technology 1 (10th)
Digital Audio Technology 1 students develop an understanding of the audio industry with a technical emphasis on production and critical-listening skills. Students study audio production careers such as audio for radio and television broadcasting, audio for video and film, audio for animation and game design, music production and live sound.

Digital Audio Technology 2 (11th)
Digital Audio Technology 2 students develop an increasing understanding of the audio industry with a focus on industry pathways such as live sound, broadcast, streaming, podcasting, studio recording and audio for film, video, and games. Students build upon their skills in capturing, manipulating, and enhancing sound.

Practicum in Digital Audio Technology (12th)
Practicum in Digital Audio prepares students for entry into the digital audio or entertainment industry, military, or postsecondary education by partnering with industry and local employers to provide students hands-on, real-world experiences and expectations. Students build their résumé and portfolio as well as obtain industry certifications in Avid Pro Tools.

AV Production Strand Courses

Principles of Arts, A/V Tech & Communications (9th)
Students will gain a basic knowledge of all AMAT strands. They will work in film, graphic design, animation, photography, and video game design.

AV Production 1 (10th)
Students in AV Production 1 will continue to expand their knowledge of video recording techniques, audio recording, scripting, and video composition.

AV Production 2 (11th)
Students in AV Production 2 will continue to expand their knowledge of video composition. Students will work on advanced scripting and advanced editing techniques.

Practicum in AV Production (12th)
Students in Practicum of AV Production will work on creating film portfolios for higher education and industry. Students will also be working towards a certification in Premier Pro. Practicum also allows students the opportunity to work in internships their senior year. 

Commercial Photography Strand Courses

Principles of Arts, A/V Tech & Communications (9th)
Students will gain a basic knowledge of all AMAT strands. They will work in film, graphic design, animation, photography, and video game design.

Commercial Photography 1 (10th)
Students in Commercial Photography 1 will gain a broad understanding of photography techniques, editing, and careers. Students will study the business side of photography in conjunction with the skills needed for each profession.

Commerical Photography 2 (11th)
Students in Commercial Photography 2 will expand their experiences with photography and editing techniques.  

Practicum in Commerical Photography (12th)
Students in Practicum of Commercial Photography will work on creating portfolios for higher education and industry. Students will also be working towards a certification in Photoshop. Practicum also allows students the opportunity to work in internships their senior year. 

Graphic Design Strand Courses

Principles of Arts, A/V Tech & Communications (9th)
Students will gain a basic knowledge of all AMAT strands. They will work in film, graphic design, animation, photography, and video game design.

Graphic Design 1 (10th)
Students in Graphic Design 1 will gain a broad understanding of design through design principles, color theory, and composition utilizing Photoshop and illustrator to display their mastery of each topic. Through each project and experimentation, students will become familiar with Photoshop and Illustrator, its tools, and many design techniques.

Graphic Design 2 (11th)
Students in Graphic Design 2 will continue to expand their knowledge of Graphic Design and how it is used in the real world. Each student will be required to demonstrate all the principles they have previously learned while focusing on best practices to successfully complete the projects.

Video Game Design (Optional addition to 11th grade)

Yearbook Strand Courses

Principles of Arts, A/V Tech & Communications (9th)
Students will gain a basic knowledge of all AMAT strands. They will work in film, graphic design, animation, photography, and video game design.

Graphic Design 1 (Option 1 for 10th)
Students in Graphic Design 1 will gain a broad understanding of design through design principles, color theory, and composition utilizing Photoshop and illustrator to display their mastery of each topic. Digital Art and Animation (11th) - Yearbook 1
Students in Digital art and animation will learn the basics of layout design and photography to create the school yearbook. The students will layout their own pages for the yearbook and go to events to take pictures. 

Practicum in Entrepreneurship (12th) - Yearbook 2
Students in Practicum in Entrepreneurship will continue to develop their skills in layout and photography to once again make a yearbook. Students will also work towards getting their certification in InDesign.
