Safety & Security Measures

The physical environment layer uses the structural components of each campus to design comprehensive processes and procedures intended to mitigate and protect students and staff from a variety of potential threats and hazards. 

• Safety & Security Enhancements at Campuses and Facilities 

  • Safe Entrances Initiative 

    • Security vestibules at all campuses with impact-resistant glass 

    • Single Point of Entry

      • Procedures are implemented at all campuses for monitoring and controlling public access by standardizing visitor entry points at the front of each campus by utilizing video doorbell systems. 

    • Access Control installed card access readers on designated access points to the campus

    • Secure vestibules at all campuses

      • Impact-resistant glass in secure vestibules 

  • Upgraded security technology features are underway throughout the district to include security cameras, card reader access control locks, Lockdown panic buttons, and more. In addition, the district upgraded security technology systems and programs to a unified platform that integrates the upgrades throughout the district with fire and security systems as well as other hardware to enhance a prepared, safe, and secure educational environment.  

  • Updated district-wide radio communication system with new equipment

  • CFBISD uses metal detectors at the Standridge Stadium for large events.

This layer of safety and security revolves around how staff, students, and our community interact in the learning environment and includes programs, protocols, and communication methods that are tools developed for preparing for, responding to, and recovering from potential critical incidents at any campus or facility.

  • A collaborative program that partners safety and security with mental and behavioral health to enhance overall wellness by providing resources and innovative tools to address the growing psychological challenges and impacts experienced in our schools and communities.

      • Membership and reporting requirements of the state-mandated committee expanded

• Emergency Operations Plans

  • All campuses must include identification of all vulnerabilities, assessment of capabilities of response, development of effective response protocols, and training and drilling to the plan.     

• CFBISD SRO Program (Law Enforcement)

  • Every High School and Middle School has a School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to the campus. These SROs are Law Enforcement Officers contracted with the City Police Department that the campus is located in (Carrollton PD, Irving PD, Farmers Branch PD, or Dallas PD).

  • Our SROs also service the needs of the Elementary campuses, using the feeder patterns similar to attendance zones. 

• District Security Officers Program

  • Every High School and Middle School has at least 1 District Security Officer who services the campus as well as the Elementary Schools in that feeder pattern. 

• Training Programs

  • Active Shooter and Emergency Response: The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) 

    • All teachers, counselors, district and campus administrators, substitutes, transportation, and community programs staff 

  • Mental Health Crisis Response Team

    • Team of licensed professionals trained to respond during critical incidents 

  • Mental Health Assessment 

    • All teachers, counselors, district and campus administrators, campus paras, transportation, and community programs staff 

  • Threat Assessment 

    • All campus administrators, counselors, and nurses 

  • Suicide Risk Screener 

    • All campus administrators, counselors, and nurses 

  • Mental Health Crisis Response 

    • Team of licensed professionals trained to respond during critical incidents

• Policy Revisions and Enhancements

  • Identification Badges Required 

    • All employees while on district property conducting district business will wear their district-issued employee ID badge.  

    • All visitors will also be issued a visitors ID badge 

  •  Stadium Clear Bag Policy Required 

    • All guests at large athletic events will be required to adhere to the clear bag policy, including Standridge stadium. Please see the clear bag policy below for additional information.

This layer overlaps physical security and human behavior with digital tools and systems to enhance an effective and comprehensive safety climate. 

• Anonymous Reporting of Bullying/Cyberbullying and other Incidents 

  • Anonymous Alerts is a reporting system that shares information with the applicable campus or district department for anyone to report incidents or threats, harm, bullying, and more as a way to anonymously report these situations that may create an unsafe environment.   • Security cameras, access control, alarm monitoring, account filtration systems, social media monitoring, emergency communication systems, security intelligence, and more are monitored in real-time.
