Public Information Requests
Information on Open Records Requests
Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District (District) is subject to the requirements of the Texas Public Information Act (TPIA). The TPIA requires the District to treat all requests for information uniformly without regard to the position or occupation of the requestor, the person on whose behalf the request is made, or the status of the individual as a member of the media. Tex. Gov. Code § 552.223.
Requests for transcripts and diplomas should be directed to the Student Record Services Department. Requests for student education records for students currently enrolled in the District should be directed to the campus principal.
Requests for employee service records should be directed to the Human Resources Department and submitted through the online form.
All other requests for information must be submitted in writing and should contain the following:
- Your name
- Address
- Phone number
- Description of the information and/or document(s) being requested
Requests for information may be submitted in one of three ways:

Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District has designated the email address publicinformation@cfbisd.edu as the District's official email to receive any and all TPIA requests. As such, requests for information that are sent to any other District email address are not considered "received" and will not be processed unless the requestor sends the request to publicinformation@cfbisd.edu.
Please include "Public Information Request" in the subject line of your email.
Charges & Fees
Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD charges fees authorized by the Texas Public Information Act. If the fees will result in a charge exceeding $40.00, the district will provide the requestor with a written estimate detailing the charges that will be imposed. The following fees apply to Public Records requests:
- $15.00 per hour labor charge for locating, compiling, reproducing, reviewing and redacting information (>50 pages)
- $28.50 per hour labor charge for computer programming when needed
- 20% overhead fee added to labor charges
- 10 cents per page for letter-sized paper copies
- 15 cents per page for legal-sized paper copies
- $5.00 per USB Drive
- Postage
Payment methods accepted: checks or credit cards. NO cash payments accepted.
Timelines and Deadlines
As provided by the Texas Public Information Act, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD will provide the requested information promptly. Depending upon the complexity of the request and volume of other pending requests, this is typically 10 business days. If we are unable to complete your request within 10 business days, we will notify you of the date we expect to complete your request. If your request includes information that we believe is confidential or excepted from release, we will submit a request for an opinion to the Texas Attorney General to determine whether the requested information may be released or must be withheld.
