CFBISD Voters Approve Bond Election to Address Safety, Aging Schools, and Infrastructure

In May 2023, Dallas and Denton county residents in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD approved the school district’s $716.4 million bond referendum. The election passed with 6,120 ballots cast for and 3,385 ballots cast against. That is a percentage comparison of 64.57-to-35.43 across both counties.

The bonds will generate funding for safety and security updates at every school and replacement schools for three of the district’s oldest elementary schools: Central Elementary, Carrollton Elementary and Farmers Branch Elementary. In addition, the district will renovate special education classrooms and support areas, update spaces for early childhood education, and make improvements to fine arts classrooms, gymnasiums, and more.

CFBISD can fund the projects at the current Interest and Sinking tax rate, which means the school district’s tax rate will not increase as a result of voters approving this bond election.

“Community pride and support of our schools has been evident ever since my very first meeting in CFBISD a couple of months ago. Tonight’s election results are another example of how our community rallies around our school system,” said Superintendent Wendy Eldredge, Ed.D.

“I am so very grateful for the support and trust from our residents. On behalf of the Board of Trustees and administration, I want to thank everyone and reassure our voters that we will make smart, sound decisions with their tax dollars. We take this responsibility very seriously and look forward to sharing progress about our facility updates in the coming months and years.”

Facility and construction updates will be shared on the district’s website as projects are planned, designed, and constructed. The projects included in the May 2023 bond build upon the renovation and rejuvenation work that began with the 2018 bond election, and all projects were recommended by the Citizen’s Bond Planning Committee that met for six months to evaluate and prioritize facility needs in CFBISD. A complete list of projects is available at cfbisd.edu/bond2023.
