G/T Terminology

ACE  child-centered GT program for students in grades kindergarten through twelfth grade.

LEAP – Program for highly advanced GT housed at McCoy and Perry Middle School

IDS – Interdisciplinary seminar is a course designed to meet the needs of ACE and LEAP middle school students. The curriculum enhances the four core subjects by adding depth, complexity, and pacing.

Cluster Groups – ACE students clustered in specific classrooms with ‘Teachers of Record’ for purposes of working together to meet their academic and social/emotional needs.

Teacher of Record – teacher responsible for serving gifted students. Must have 30 hours of gifted training and a 6 hour update each year (June 1 – May 31)

Liaison – school representative responsible for disseminating information to staff and communication with the Advanced Academic Office.

Depth and Complexity – further exploration of content within a discipline; analyzing from the concrete to the abstract; extending content between and across the disciplines through study of themes, problems, and issues.

Differentiation – modifying the general education curriculum by adding depth, complexity and pacing.

School with a School- Classes are comprised of only GT or LEAP students on a campus for core learning.  Students attend enrichment, lunch and recess with all student’s campus-wide. STEAM @ Landry or LEAP/McCoy

IB – International Baccalaureate – The International Baccalaureate (IB) offers high quality programs of international education to a worldwide community of schools. The two CFBISD campuses offering (PYP) are Las Colinas and Good Elementary schools.
