I do have a concern about traffic on Timber Oaks. I know that a traffic study was done, but what I don't think that study shows that cars come onto Timber Oaks to pick up kids. Those cars either turn around on the street or they drive around to Shadow Ridge back to Timber Oaks to Kelly. This street is a no outlet, no through traffic street. My concern since I live on Shadow Ridge is that there will be more cars driving down my street. My understanding is that buses and cars will be exiting the school onto Timber Oaks and during high traffic times it may be difficult for myself and other residents to be able to drive out of our neighborhood. There is no other way for residents to enter or exit our neighborhood. Cars also stop on Kelly to let kids out in front of the school which holds up traffic and is dangerous for the kids. One of the reasons that my husband and I bought a house 29 years ago in this neighborhood is because there was little traffic and that when we had children they would be able to walk to school. We have 3 children that are now adults and all 3 attended both Sheffield location, Dan F. Long and Newman Smith.
I would like to know what the plan is for the traffic flow so that residents of this neighborhood will be able to access our homes or Kelly Blvd. I was on the virtual meeting to hear about the project and when this concern was brought up no one had an answer. Another question that was brought up was whether or not construction equipment and trucks will be using Timber Oaks.
Answer:
With regard to the traffic question, as mentioned in the response to Question 3 above there are no plans at this time to change the traffic control at the Kelly / Timber Oaks intersection. It is currently a two-way stop with a stop sign on Timber Oaks. The southbound approach on Timber Oaks at Kelly will be striped for two lanes to separate out the left turn and right turn traffic. As part of the study, it was also recommended to restrict parking on both sides of Timber Oaks adjacent to the school to keep the traffic lanes open during the school’s peak periods so traffic can flow smoothly.
We expect to have some construction traffic on the section of Timber Oaks bordering the Sheffield Elementary site.
