Required to ride: Important transportation information for the new school year

As we prepare to welcome students back for the 2026-27 school year, the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD Transportation Department is ready to help students get to and from school safely and on time. For that reason, we encourage all of our families to review important transportation updates, including bus routes, the district's bus badge program and a new parent app that provides real-time bus information.

"Thousands of CFBISD students begin and end their school day on a bus, and keeping them safe is a responsibility we take seriously," said Donna Cox, Director of Transportation. "We're proud to work with families to provide reliable transportation and implement new tools that make it easier for them to stay informed every step of the way."

Bus routes and transportation services

Because student enrollment and ridership change throughout the year, bus routes may be adjusted before and after the start of each semester. Families should expect route updates during the first few weeks of school as the district evaluates ridership and makes adjustments to improve efficiency. Bus stops with no riders for three consecutive days may be temporarily removed until service is needed again.

Bus badge program

Following a successful pilot in 2025-26, CFBISD's bus badge program will be fully implemented for the 2026-27 school year. The program helps improve student safety and accountability by allowing the Transportation Department to track when students board and exit the bus accurately.

Families should ensure students bring their bus badge each day to help make boarding and dismissal as efficient as possible. Please note that campuses will not print day passes this year. Students without their badges must either pay a fee of $5 for a replacement badge or be picked up by a parent or guardian for that day.

Zonar bus suite app

This school year, CFBISD is using a new  Zonar Bus Suite app, giving families more visibility into their student's transportation.

With the app, parents and guardians can:

  • Track their child's school bus in real time

  • View estimated bus arrival times

  • Receive notifications when their child boards and exits the bus

Instructions for downloading the Bus Suite app, creating an account and managing passwords are available on the Transportation Department webpage.
