DeWitt Perry students dominate at National Civic Bee regional competition

Eight students from Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD’s DeWitt Perry Middle School dominated the regional stage of the National Civics Bee on Wednesday, April 8, proving that the future of civic engagement is bright in CFBISD.

The bee, held at Brookhaven College, featured 20 finalists from across the region. Perry students accounted for nearly half of the competition, with two students placing in the top five overall.

About the National Civics Bee

The National Civics Bee is a multi-stage competition designed to inspire middle schoolers to become better informed about American democracy. To qualify for the regional event, students responded to a four-question essay prompt proposing innovative ideas to improve their local communities.

By participating, students refine their writing and public speaking skills while building a foundation for respectful and constructive civic discourse. Students who participate gain knowledge about American democracy, practice engaging respectfully, and build trust in others and institutions.

The road to the championship continues this summer. Following the state finals in Austin, one finalist from each state will receive a trip to the National Championship to compete for various prizes.
