DeWitt Perry and R.L. Turner students earn top spots in Dallas Bar Association’s Law Day Essay Competition

Students from DeWitt Perry Middle School and R.L. Turner High School secured top honors in the Dallas Bar Association’s (DBA) annual Law Day Essay Competition.

Eighth-grade Perry students Saanvi Singh and Aarush Roy clinched first and second place, respectively, in the middle school division. Turner student Ghayathiri Anandaraman took home second place in the high school division.

Perry Middle School has a strong track record in the contest. In 2022, students from the school took home first and third place titles, followed by first and second place in 2023.

The Dallas Bar Association hosts essay, photo, and poster contests for DFW-area students annually. These contests align with the American Bar Association's Law Day theme to celebrate the importance of law and its impact on the nation and local communities. More than 100 students from across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex submit essays online to the DBA each year.

The 2025 Law Day theme was "The Constitution's Promise: Out of Many, One." Students were tasked with interpreting the theme and responding to the prompt: "To further instill pride in our Constitution, depict the ways in which the rule of law bridges our differences to bring us together as a united nation."

The winning students were honored at an annual luncheon Friday, May 9, at the Dallas Arts Mansion in downtown Dallas.
