A Creekview High School saxophone ensemble has been invited to perform at the 79th annual Midwest Clinic, the world's premier instrumental music education conference, in Chicago this December. This marks the second time a Creekview ensemble has been selected for the prestigious event, with the wind symphony having performed in 2011.
The ensemble, performing as the Vivaldi Quartet, consists of student musicians Daniel Shin (soprano saxophone), Andrew Nguyen (alto saxophone), Reid Tilton (tenor saxophone) and Marcos Alvarado (baritone saxophone).
"This invitation to the Midwest Clinic is one of the highest honors in music education,” said Creekview band director Arturo Denis. “I am incredibly proud of our students for earning their place on this international stage.”
Since 2023, the Vivaldi Quartet has consistently earned superior ratings at region UIL contests and has qualified for state. Their journey has been guided by Creekview's saxophone teacher, Kevin Ford, and masterclasses with mentors such as Christy Springer of the Dallas Winds and Dr. Claire Salli, professor of saxophone at Texas A&M International University.
"The success of the Vivaldi Quartet is not only a moment of pride for Creekview High School, but a shining example of the exceptional fine arts education that thrives throughout Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD,” said Mark Rohwer, CFBISD director of fine arts. “It underscores the district’s mission to provide meaningful, world-class experiences that uplift and empower our students.”
The Creekview band program, under the direction of Denis, Nate Salas and Bill Holden, has received national acclaim, including Mark of Excellence awards, multiple invitations to the Music for All National Festival and UIL Sweepstakes awards. Students from the program have also earned placements in the Texas All-State Band, National Youth Ensembles and various summer institutes.
"Our students’ work ethic, passion and character reflect the heart of what we believe in at Creekview,” Denis expressed. “We are grateful to be part of a district that believes in the power of the arts to change lives."
