Creekview High School has been named the recipient of the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD Sentinel of Safety Award. This award recognizes a campus that actively promotes a culture of school safety through innovative projects.
To be considered, campuses must complete a safety-related project that impacts the majority of students and staff. The project must exceed the district’s standard safety requirements.
Creekview's winning projects, which were planned and sponsored by the student council, included:
-
Teens in the Driver Seat Assembly and Safety Fair: This event allowed students to hear from guest speaker, Tyson Dever, who shared his experience of living with paralysis after a car accident. To raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving, safety fairs featuring interactive booths and activities, such as a driver simulation and pedestrian obstacle course, were held during lunch periods.
-
Carter Blood Care Drives: The school hosted four blood drives throughout the year, educating students about the importance of blood donation and saving lives. Each blood drive had more than 50 donations, saving approximately 600 lives.
-
Red Ribbon Week: Student council organized various activities to promote a drug-free lifestyle during Red Ribbon Week. Students and staff participated in themed spirit days and visited informational booths to learn about the dangers of alcohol and substance abuse. Students also participated in an advisory activity about Red Ribbon Week's history and brainstormed ways to support those struggling with addiction.
Last year, Rainwater Elementary School won the award for hosting a safety week that educated all students on various topics including CPR, first aid, health, nutrition, bicycle/pedestrian safety and drug prevention.
