Two Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD dance companies, Creekview HS’s Moving Ground and Newman Smith HS’s Gallery in Motion, have earned performance spots at the Regional High School Dance Festival in March. The festival, taking place at Texas A&M University in College Station, will showcase performances by talented student dance groups from across the country.
The National HS Dance Festival and the Regional HS Dance Festival rotate annually, taking turns showcasing the nation's top student dancers. Both CFBISD dance companies have been national regulars for more than twenty years. This year marks their first appearances at the regional event, which is being held in the Southern United States for the first time. Dancers will travel from eight states – Texas, Florida, Louisiana, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Colorado and Wisconsin – to perform at this year’s regional festival.
“Each school is allowed to submit a maximum of five dances for adjudication for selection into the festival concerts,” said Ronelle Eddings, Moving Ground Dance Company director. “It is very competitive and challenging to be chosen, so both of our companies are very honored to have been selected.”
Creekview's Moving Ground Dance Company will perform four pieces at the festival and Smith’s Gallery in Motion will showcase three. The following list details each company’s performances:
Student Showcase: Sans Peur (No Fear) by Kayla Payton
Afternoon Concert: Living by Ryleigh Moreno
Afternoon Concert: Lights of Hope by Dariana Martinez
Showcase Concert: Dreaming by Ronelle Eddings & Cast
Student Showcase: Affliction by Olivia Ker
Showcase Concert: Isokan by Guest Artist, Micah Patterson
Gala Concert: Conscientia by Stephanie Laranjeira
“Our dancers are so honored to have their work selected,” Eddings said. “We want to thank everyone for their tremendous support. Congratulations to these incredible dance artists.”
