CFBISD’s Leslie Halencak honored as Region 10’s APE Professional of the Year

Leslie Halencak, Adapted Physical Education (APE) specialist for Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, has been recognized with the prestigious Randy Foederer Region 10 APE Professional of the Year award.

“Receiving this recognition in acknowledgement of my hard work is a true honor,” said Halencak. “It reinforces my commitment and strengthens my dedication to positively impact my students.”

Halencak’s passion for inclusive physical education is evident in her numerous roles and contributions to the district. She actively participates in both regional and state Special Olympics events including Unified Sports, FUNdamental, the Young Athletes Program (YAP), and adult leagues. Beyond Special Olympics, Halencak supports the region’s Sports Extravaganza, Goal Ball and Kid-Netic Games adapted sporting events.

“Leslie has devoted her heart and soul to the district’s APE program for decades,” said Amy Talbert, fellow APE professional. “She is an exemplary leader, mentor and service provider.”

Throughout her career, Halencak has fostered collaboration among APE and PE teachers across Region 10. She played a key role in developing the region’s first Partner PE Manual and has contributed to the Sports Extravaganza and Kid-Netic Games committees.

Under Halencak’s guidance, the CFBISD Special Olympics program has flourished, growing from a small group of athletes to hundreds of dedicated participants and families. She oversees the Greater Dallas Area Bowling Competition and the district’s track and field event each year. Additionally, she is a vital contributor to Kacie’s Run, an event that benefits the CFBISD Special Olympics All-Stars team.

“We are incredibly grateful for Leslie’s unwavering commitment,” said Talbert. “She understands the importance of connecting with and supporting our families. She is truly a transformative force in the field of APE.”
