On July 18, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD hosted a luncheon at the Nancy Watten Technology and Event Center for new educators entering the district.
More than 500 people attended the Game Day-themed event to celebrate the new educators as they kicked off the school year.
Greeted by student cheerleaders and a drumline, educators entered the building to find CFB department tables lined up and down the hallway to assist with their onboarding needs.
CFBISD Board President Randy Schackmann gave a welcome and attendees enjoyed a Game-Day feast of sliders, popcorn, desserts and more. After lunch, Superintendent Dr. Wendy Eldredge interacted with the new educators and the audience.
“It's such a joy to welcome so many new educators to our one big family,” Eldredge said. “These individuals have committed to serve our students and help them succeed. I am thrilled to have them join our district.”
Hugh Cherry, Ranchview High School student and CFB Student Ambassador, talked with Dr. Eldredge about his family game traditions and experiences in CFBISD. Attendees had the opportunity to ask Hugh questions and gain valuable insight through the eyes of a student.
“Be clear with your expectations for your students,” Cherry said. “We want to know what you expect from us and giving us those expectations up front will help us be successful.”
The new educators had some fun after the lunch by playing some Game Day trivia, led by Luke Erlenbusch, Educational Foundation Member, and Dawn Parnell, Chief Communications Officer.
The event was wrapped up with some exciting giveaways as the CFBISD Educational Foundation awarded five teachers with $100 gift cards to help them supply their classrooms. In addition, the CFB Retired School Personnel Association (RSPA) awarded $3,800 to another nineteen first-year teachers, each receiving a $200 gift card.
“We are so proud and excited to welcome new educators to our CFB family and we are committed to do whatever we can to make sure their “start” is as smooth as possible,” said Donna Wald, Educational Foundation Executive Director. “ We love supporting our educators.”
“Most of us as CFB RSPA members know how it feels to be a first year teacher and juggle financially to get your classroom ready for your students,” said Shaima Hakimi, RSPA President. “In our limited capacity, we are honored to be able to help.”
