CFBISD students showcase engineering and coding skills at VEX Robotics Competition

Last week, students from Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD showcased their engineering and coding skills during the district’s three-day 2025 VEX Robotics Competitions, held at the Nancy Watten Technology and Event Center. Approximately 300 students from across the metroplex participated, with one competition day dedicated to elementary teams, another to middle school teams, and a third to high school teams.

Teams from grades three through 12 competed in two categories: the VEX IQ Challenge for elementary- and middle-school students and the VEX V5 Robotics Competition for high school students. Throughout the school year, students designed, built, and programmed custom robots to solve challenges tied to this year’s VEX games.

“To succeed in this competition, our students spend weeks problem-solving and focusing on perseverance and teamwork,” said Carrie Gooch, CFBISD coordinator of coding and robotics. “All of these pieces must come together to successfully collaborate to complete the challenges.”

The competition evaluated teams through tournament play, timed challenges, and team interviews. Coaches supported students as they strengthened problem-solving skills, refined robot designs, and formed strategic alliances to maximize scores.

The event supports CFBISD’s commitment to developing STEM identities and critical technological skills through hands-on engineering and design. To learn more about district offerings, visit the CFB Programs of Choice page.
