CFBISD Students Excel in Summer School Programs

Summer may have started, but that has not stopped CFBISD students and teachers from continuing to learn together. Summer programs for all ages are up and running, providing enriching instruction across contents and grade levels. Elementary and middle school learners attending summer school engage in reading, writing, and mathematics, reinforcing concepts from the year, and preparing for the next school year. A summer session of virtual high school is also taking place for students currently enrolled in CFBISD. These students may retake a previous course or take a course for advancement. Review classes for STAAR-EOC (End of Course) instruction are also available.

Bilingual and ESL pre-k students in CFBISD are engaged in the summer program, Learning the Language. This program provides oral language development to students from across the district. "Our teachers know the importance of giving our students the support and guidance they need to improve their second-language acquisition while still fostering their native language and celebrating their individual cultures," says Emmanuel Trevino, principal of Learning the Language. "We are proud to offer an enriching, fun, and rigorous curriculum that helps students prepare for their upcoming school year."

In each summer program, CFBISD students are learning, growing, and having fun! By incorporating outdoor play and physical activity into the curriculum, teachers and staff engage their students in learning through events like the Summer Olympics at McKamy, popsicle parties at McWhorter, and summer school-themed cruises at Landry Elementary School. Scholars at Polk Middle School are even earning medals for their summer achievements! "These summer programs are meeting the needs of our students," said Katie Owen, a summer school teacher in CFBISD. "At the same time, they are having fun and growing as learners. It is an amazing experience!"
