CFBISD provides Bond update

During its February board meeting, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD Trustees received an update on the progress of several 2023 Bond projects, highlighting a significant transition into the next phase of district-wide improvements.

Currently, seven campuses are undergoing active construction. The district expects activity to ramp up significantly during the summer, with plans for 20 campuses to be under construction.

The update provided a status report on several major campus improvements. Additionally, updates were given on projects under the reallocated bond funds from the November board meeting.

In November, Trustees unanimously approved a proposal to reallocate $131.5 million of 2023 bond funds originally designated for the four schools consolidated under the Facilities Planning for Future Success plan. Of those reallocated funds, $44.5 million is being used to support several key construction projects:

  • Carrollton Elementary: Trustees received an update on the $12.5 million in additional funding for new construction. Approximately $9 million of the additional funds is projected to be needed.

  • Farmers Branch Elementary: $12.5 million in additional funding to support new construction.

  • Grimes/Salazar replacement: $8 million in additional funding for the new building.

  • Elementary fencing: $11.5 million to replace and upgrade fencing at 13 elementary campuses.

This reallocation plan was developed through a deliberate process, incorporating feedback from the Bond Oversight Committee.

The district also reported that its Bond fiber project is 99% complete. The investment in digital infrastructure has already proven its worth; officials noted that during a recent fiber cut, instructional activities continued without interruption due to the project's built-in redundancies.
