This week, October 28-November 1, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD is participating in Red Ribbon Week. Students and staff are encouraged to dress up for spirit days and engage in educational activities highlighting the importance of a drug-free lifestyle. This year’s theme, “Life is a Movie, Film Drug Free” inspires individuals to play their part in fostering safe, healthy and drug-free communities.
This annual campaign allows parents, educators and communities to reinforce the drug-free messages they share with their students throughout the year. During Red Ribbon Week, youth and adults nationwide will pledge to increase their knowledge by learning more about the destructive effects of drug abuse.
Since its beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction caused by drugs in America. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.
