CFBISD All Stars strike big at Special Olympics bowling competition

The CFBISD All Stars team, composed of 156 athletes, recently competed in the Special Olympics Greater Dallas Area Bowling Competition at the Bowlero alley in Addison.

The athletes began the competition with a traditional ceremony, reciting the Special Olympics athlete oath and listening to the National Anthem. Each athlete participated in two games, facing off against competitors from surrounding school districts.

“Our ultimate goal is to empower athletes and their community of supporters,” said Leslie Halencak, Special Olympics coordinator. “Our exceptional athletes earned numerous medals and ribbons as a result of their determination and hard efforts, but most importantly, they gained confidence and developed many friendships along the way.”

CFBISD aims to empower students by upholding the mission of Special Olympics; to promote acceptance, understanding and inclusion for people with and without intellectual disabilities.

“We are very thankful for all the volunteers who donated their time to assist our athletes,” said Billy Macklin, Special Olympics coordinator. “Their support is crucial to the success of events like this.”

About CFBISD Special Olympics

In 1999, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD formed an “All Star” team of 16 Special Olympics athletes. The program has grown to more than 230 students and is a model for other districts to aspire. The team offers bowling in the fall and track and field in the spring, which will be held at Standridge Stadium on March 26, 2025.

Special Olympics is a positive experience for all who participate, including high school students and community volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to Billy Macklin at macklinw@cfbisd.edu.
