Campus Proposal Information
FAQs - Questions submitted by parents and staff
- Will higher utilization affect Programs of Choice? We choose to attend from DISD and don't want to lose our place.
- Where will the ABC program be relocated to?
- Why is the meeting so short with 10 minutes for questions? What are you afraid of?
- Is the percentage of seats that are "empty" something new compared to previous years? Or is the problem a lack of funding from the state (that has $24 Billion in rainy day fund)? And unfunded mandates?
- Why wasn't this information provided before you asked us if we would approve your most recent bond? May 2023
- What is the other school in consideration in the Smith feeder? Which is the main alternative?
- Is Perry's LEAP program moving?
- From a student: McCoy is the best school, why close it?
- While elementary LEAP has an obvious reason to move with the school closure, that does not apply to Perry Middle School. Why move that program? Can you guarantee the teachers will move with it?
- Is the bus driver shortage impacting this need to move LEAP?
- Will the district finally provide transportation so the LEAP program remains viable?
- What will happen to the SPED Department/ ABC Program?
- How will it affect children in the Bridge Program (Special Ed)?
- Why is the district forcing this decision with only 1 month of feedback on the final proposal (not criteria) when woolpert and others have suggested we are not in a dire situation?
- What is the value of the acreage compared to other schools? Is selling to a developer a motive? Who is getting paid?
- Why are you dismantling the #1 ranked elementary? Are there ways to mitigate the land to sell the back only acreage for development?
- Has the amount of taxes lost due to falling home values resulting from the closure of the district's top performing school, been factored into the final "cost savings" calculated?
- McCoy uses a pod configuration for classrooms. How hard is it to create a secure pod and whatever is needed to improve security?
- Is there a guaranteed spot for my child at the new rezoned schools?
- Will there be open enrollment available to select the elementary school we would like to transfer our child to?
- Why were other solutions unsuitable?
- McCoy has the highest teacher retention rates and students attendance rates, were these factors considered during the cost savings analysis. How much will it cost to train new teachers and lose a campus with high attendance?
- The cost breakdown was never given for the first year savings. Can anyone confirm if they gave projections for subsequent years?
- Is the property value of McCoy an attributing factor to its selection?
- Why was the Woolpert selected, and how was this funded?
- Was academic performance factored into the decision to close McCoy?
- What will happen if we transferred into McCoy rather than going to Sheffield elementary. Will our student be able to go to either Blanton or Good?
- Was the data relied on by the consultants vetted for accuracy?
- Why were older schools in Smith feeder not considered?
- Can we have a community vote about this?
- Will the change affect the teacher-to-student ratio?
- If LEAP students are transferred to a different campus, what is the procedure for transfer?
- What do the demographics project for school use in the McCoy neighborhood over the next 10 years?
- What is the long-term strategic plan for the LEAP program (with regards to both location of the elementary and middle school programs, and any potential plans to consolidate with other GT programs offered in the district)?
- Can you provide more information about the physical condition of McCoy versus other nearby elementary schools? Are there any major structural deficiencies to McCoy?
- Children already have earned merits for next year. Is there any opportunity to grandfather them into similar roles at their consolidated school? I.e. school news stations, student council, etc.
- What is the plan to replace LEAP teachers who don’t make the move to the new campuses? And what impact do you think it’ll have on the program as a whole?
- Can the proposal be split up or is it all or nothing?
- How can the age of the building override the positive trajectory on enrollment and current success that already is in place?
- Everything we are hearing keeps saying this is a “proposed” plan. What needs to happen in order to change what the plan is, in regards to McCoy Elementary’s future?
- Will the IEPs carry over and are there any additional documents needed?
- For many families in the SPED/ABC program, this will be a third time that they will have to move from their elementary campus-how do we provide consistency for these kids going forward in lieu of budget deficits?
- With the proposed rezoning of attendance zones, will district employees still be able to place their children at a campus of their choosing?
- What will become of the land?
