2011-2012 Athletic Update and Distinctions
Jason Maxwell, a C-FB graduate, now plays basketball for the Detroit Pistons.
Taylor Teagarden, a C-FB graduate, now plays baseball for the Texas Rangers.
Preston Claiborne, a C-FB graduate, now plays baseball for the Tampa Yankees, a minor league affiliate of the New York Yankees.
Jeremy Beal, a C-FB graduate, now plays football for the Denver Broncos.
C-FB golfers, Andrew Magee, Brian Watts and Andrew Dresser have played professionally in the PGA.
2010-2011 Athletic Update and Distinctions
Newman Smith High School graduate, Anthony Armstrong, played football at West Texas A&M, and then played for Odessa, Texas indoor Intentse Football League. Afterwards, he played for the Dallas Desperados of the Arena Football League, and is now a wide receiver for the Washington Redskins.
Sana Merchant, graduate of Newman Smith High School, won the “M” Award from Southern Methodist University. The “M” Award is the most highly prized recognition bestowed upon students, faculty, staff and administrators on the SMU Campus. Honorees of this prestigious award are an inspiration to others, giving unselfishly of their time and talents in order to make the University, and indeed the world, a better place for all of us to live.
Over the last 4 years, Merchant has also won 3 national public relations awards; The John D. Graham Award, The Marcia Silverman Award and the National President’s Citation.

C-FB High School enrollment (grades 9-12) was 6,550; 2,700 of these students were athletes.

High school athletes took 4,381 Pre-AP & AP Classes which was a 12% increase over 2008-2009.
The district seventh and eighth grade enrollment is 3,737 of which 2,910 are athletes. The district saw 2% increase in athletic participation from 2008-2009.

An increase of 4 in Football, 1 in Volleyball, and 4 in Basketball
(90% increase in Academic All-State in three sports combined).
Newman Smith’s Courtney Okolo was the UIL State Track 400 meter Champion.
The Newman Smith Football Team advanced to the Division I Division I Regional Semi-Final game.
