| Dear Parents,
The state of Texas has passed a new law requiring school districts to retain all 3rd grade students who fail the reading portion of the new state test called the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, or TAKS. This test is the replacement of TAAS. This will be a test of higher order thinking skills. The standards are high, and so are the stakes. We here at Janie Stark are making every effort to ensure the success of each of our students. Good reading skills are not developed in a year. This must begin before a child enters school. Parents need to be aware of the state requirement so that they can work with the school to prepare the children. Please stay in close touch with your child’s teacher. If your child is below level in reading, find out what the teacher is doing to help your child, and ask what you can to help. Your efforts are appreciated. For more information, please click here. Estimados padres, El estado de Tejas ha pasado una ley nueva requiriendo a los distritos escolares la retención de los estudiantes en el 3er grado que no pasen la parte de lectura del nuevo examen del estado llamado Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, or TAKS. Este examen remplaza al TAAS. Este examen nuevo prueba destrezas de penzar más avanzadas. Nosotros esparamos que los niños triunfen en esta prueba debido al estandarte que tenemos aquí en la escuela Janie Stark. Destrezas en la lectura no se adquieren en un año. Estas deben empezar en el hogar antes de entrar a la escuela. Yo quiero que los padres esten al tanto de este requerimiento del estado para que trabajen con nosotros en la preparación de su niño/a. Por favor de mantenerse en contacto con la maestra de su niño/a.
