Where
can 5th graders run an entire city for a day?
A day in the city is the culminating activity of our Social Studies Economics unit. Using Enterprise City curriculum and related resources, students will learn the benefits of the free enterprise system, investigate supply and demand, and study mass production, specialization, and division of labor. All of this knowledge and experience will enable our students to enjoy the fruits of their labor on their special day at Enterprise City on February 14. Once again, we want to thank all of our parent volunteers. We couldn’t do it without you! Why, Enterprise City, of course! In math we shall learn check writing, balancing a checkbook, and math skills related to running a business. This is valuable information that students will utilize at Enterprise City as well as in real life experiences. We shall continue with our math curriculum which includes the following: identifying multiples of whole numbers, comparing two fractional quantities in problem-solving situations using a variety of methods, finding common factors of a number and identifying prime factors of a number, generating equivalent fractions, and adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators. Science classes will be studying weather and seasonal cycles. Students will identify the significance of the water, carbon, and nitrogen cycles. Continue to encourage your child to READ, READ, and READ. Reading assignments will continue to stress comprehension and skills that enable your child to be successful in all subjects. Being able to recognize the author’s point of view, identify story elements, draw conclusions, and compare/contrast information is so important to your child’s learning. We are
looking forward to a very active and meaningful 4th six weeks.
