| A Word from the Director:
"You've got one coin. How are you going to spend it?"
"Hello Gorgeous!"
My name is Stephanie Martin and I am the current director of the Newman
Smith Troyanns. You may wonder why I begin with Hello Gorgeous?
It is because drill team is more than just about dance. We are truly
a family who helps build one another's self esteem and positive self image.
It is so important that gorgeous comes from within. My philosophy
on education is simply, Education is all about relationship. The
relationship the Troyann's build with the students and staff at Newman
Smith High School is one of the most respected on campus. We have
many rules and many expectations of the girls who aspire to be a Troyann.
One must always act like a lady, be respectful of the staff, and
strive to be a servant to other students. Leadership training is
the foundation of this organization. We use leadership books and
best-selling business strategies to teach young girls how to become the
leaders of tomorrow. Our goal as an organization is to get girls
through college into the real world. We start each day with a meeting
and a quote. Here are some quotes below that we have used to teach
how to become the best people that we can be.
CONFIDENCE
Always be a first-rate version
of yourself;
instead of a second-rate version
of somebody else.
- Judy Garland
Live in such a way that you would not be afraid to sell your parrot
to the town gossip.
- Will Rogers
DISCUSSION
Great minds discuss ideas;
Average minds discuss events;
Small minds discuss people.
- Eleanor Roosevelt
Here are some that former Troyanns may remember:
Success stops when you do.
Practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect.
It doesn't take talent to hustle.
Act how you want to be and soon you will be the way you act.
