Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD
Secondary ACT Program Guidelines

Time: 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM Monday through Friday
Initial length of placement is determined by the District Policy.
The ACT Program follows the regular Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD calendar.

General Student Rules:
1.     Students must follow the rules of the ACT Program and the C-FB ISD Student Code of Conduct.

2.     To ensure the safety of all ACT students and staff, backpacks are not allowed on campus.

3.     ANY hand gestures or flashing of gang colors will be considered gang activity that could  incite violence and will result in severe disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion.

4.     ACT strives to maintain a positive environment for students and staff.  Clothing must be free of any negative messages or pictures, including any with weapons, obscene gestures, gang symbols, drug, alcohol, or tobacco themes.  Chains are also prohibited. Students will be asked to change clothing that violates this standard and will not be allowed in the classroom until properly dressed.

5.     All unexcused absences must be made up.  Excused absences are documented court appearances, doctor's visits, or family emergencies (funeral, etc.).

6.     Students are considered tardy after the cafeteria doors are closed at 9:00 each morning. According to District policy, three tardies will result in an absence.

7.     Upon arrival at the ACT campus, students are to report to the cafeteria immediately.  Loitering on the parking lot, on school property,  or anywhere in sight of campus is not allowed.  Students are to remain in their assigned ACT classroom unless escorted by a staff member.

8.     Students are permitted to park in the north parking lot (along the Keller Springs sidewalk.)  Students are to enter and exit the parking lot in a safe, orderly manner.  Students may not smoke in the parking lot or in their cars while on school property.  Students may not return to their cars after they have exited the parking lot unless escorted by an ACT staff member.

9.     According to Texas law, all school campuses other than the ACT campus are off limits to students during their placement period.  This includes extra-curricular activities.  Students violating this law are subject to criminal trespass charges and further disciplinary action.

Academic Structure:
Senate Bill 1, Chapter 37, as passed by the 74th Texas Legislature, established the following academic provisions for students placed in the ACT Program:  “Each school shall provide an alternative education program that focuses on English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and self-discipline...”  All ACT students work on an individualized, self paced curriculum under the direct supervision of a certified classroom teacher.  In addition, group activities led by the teacher focus on strengthening the student's self-discipline.

Support Services:
Individual counseling, support groups, classroom guidance, and social service referrals are available to students and families served by the ACT Program.

Exit From ACT:
Successful exit will be at the end of the placement period.  Non-attendance or lack of positive progress in behavior and academics may result in an extension of placement time.  Students may return to the home campus only after obligations for successful completion have been fulfilled.  Expulsion from the program can occur if the student chooses to violate the above guidelines or Student Code of Conduct.
