Council of PTAs Website
PTA in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD is present and working hard for all children at each and every campus in our district.
PTAs offer a wealth of information, assistance, volunteer opportunities and programs that augment, support and enhance the educational offerings at our schools as well as support parents and their concerns.
Most PTAs meet at least one time per month, with programs that feature children's performances, family events or speakers on timely parenting or educational issues. Additionally, most PTAs offer other events throughout the year that support their school and offer social opportunities, teacher appreciation or parent support and information. PTA at the state and national level is the largest child advocacy organization in the United States boasting over 6.5 million members, nearly 800,000 of them in Texas.
The Carrollton-Farmers Branch Council of PTAs is an umbrella board of officers and chairmen who parallel the many PTA positions at local schools. The Council's main mission is two-fold. Council provides training,
resources and support for local PTA units. Council also promotes and organizes several school district-wide projects.
One of these projects is the Clothes Closet.
Other projects include Red Ribbon Week activities during October; the administration of the National PTA Reflections Contest which highlights student achievements in fine arts; administration of the Environmental
Protection Agency's yearly poster contest; supporting Post Prom at all three high schools in the hopes of providing safe and positive activities for prom-goers; tracking legislation that affects our school district, our
students and their parents; providing community forums as issues arise; and recognizing volunteerism in our community.
Business partners are always welcome by Council as well as local school level PTA units. Sometimes the needs are monetary, sometimes time, and sometimes in a mentoring capacity. PTAs appreciate the expertise of local business professionals when launching an event at their school or providing an enrichment activity to students. PTAs also appreciate the volunteer time, or community service hours, that some local businesses are eager to offer their employees. And finally, mentoring PTA leaders who are often thrown into management of their PTA unit without formal management background, or mentoring students interested in a wide variety of career paths is always a need in our community.
Volunteers make a world of difference. Without the thousands of volunteer hours that PTA provides our school district many school-based programs, projects, cultural enrichment opportunities, and educational enhancements - both in terms of equipment and experiences - would not happen due to a lack of finances or manpower or both. PTA is a vital link among parents, educators and community.
