The State of Texas created a teacher-incentive grant program, District Awards for Teacher Excellence (DATE), in which C-FB ISD will participate. C-FB ISD will receive 1.2 million dollars from the state for the program for the academic results from the 2008-09 school year which will be distributed during the fall of 2009. DATE provides monetary rewards to teachers for positively impacting student academic achievement as well as incentives for the recruitment and retention of teachers.
The District created a District-Level Planning Committee (DLPC) to create a plan for the implementation of the DATE grant for C-FB ISD. The DLPC members included teachers, administrators and district personnel from elementary, middle and high schools.
C-FB ISD’s number one goal is to achieve a Recognized rating under AEIS from the Texas Education Agency. The DLPC believes that DATE is a vital tool to help the district achieve this goal.
C-FB ISD’s DATE plan involves three levels of achievement or growth – district, campus and grade level/content area. Teachers can receive monetary rewards for achievement at the district level, campus level and/or grade level/content area. Working as a team is an important aspect of the C-FB ISD culture therefore, the awards are not based on the specific results of an individual teacher, but rewards for collaboration and teamwork. C-FB ISD’s DATE plan includes both an achievement model and a growth model. Like AEIS, reaching a specific level of growth in student achievement qualifies for a monetary reward as well as meeting a specific achievement level.
The DLPC presented the District's plan for the DATE grant to the Board of Trustees on March 27, 2008. The Board approved the DATE grant plan and added additional money for reaching the exemplary level. The DLPC has sent the DATE grant plan to the Texas Education Agency for approval on April 3, 2008..
