 Trade and technical schools offer short-term training in a wide variety of career fields. They are usually privately owned, and the programs vary greatly from school to school.

Public Technical Colleges in Texas
You can find a list of all Public Technical Colleges by visiting the State of Texas website at http://www.thecb.state.tx.us/ctc. For a more extensive list of private technical schools locally, consult the yellow pages in area phone books.
Trade and Technical Checklist
 High school diploma or GED.
- THEA - plan to take the Texas Higher Education Assessment or an approved alternative test. This is required by state law to help identify students who need additional reading, writing, or math skills to do post-high schoolwork. You must take the test before enrolling in any courses.
- Application.
- Contact the Admissions Office.
- FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid (you may qualify for grants or low interest loans). Pick up from the counseling center after November. For more information refer to the Financial Aid section.
- Send transcript to the school of your choice. See the registrar on your high school campus.
- Meet with Trade School counselor for course advising. Call to set up an appointment.
- Contact Financial Aid Office for possible scholarships.
- Apply for CCST and or Imagine America Scholarships in your high school guidance office.
