Student Assistance Program
The Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD's Student Assistance Program is designed to facilitate success for all students through prevention and intervention strategies. We also provide staff presentations in the High Schools in different topics such as bullying, depression and drug use awareness. We offer a monthly education program for parents about gangs as well.
Funded by the Texas Education Agency's Safe & Drug Free Schools and the school district, the Student Assistance Program is a cooperative school-community program.
Our aim is to help students who need to be connected with services available in our school district and in the community. Our counseling services are strictly confidential.
We provide curriculum and training for both students and teachers; a media library for students, teachers, parents; opportunities for field trips such as ROPES courses or the Metrocrest Red Ribbon Breakfast; Peer Mediation; PTA Representative coordination for each school and community representation.
Our Goals
- Intervene with students who are exhibiting violent behavior (or tendencies), using drugs/alcohol, and/or displaying other social or emotional problems that interfere with their ability to function in the school setting.
- Prevent violence and the use of drugs/alcohol by students within C-FB ISD through education and life skills training.
Most substance usage takes place off school grounds out of the jurisdiction of school officials, yet many of the side effects of this use are reflected in students' performance in school. The goal of Student Assistance is to identify adolescents whose behavior, attendance, or grades indicate they may have problems related to alcohol and/or other drug use. Through the different steps which comprise the Student Assistance process, these at-risk adolescents are referred for a professional assessment and directed to appropriate services.
