Crime Stoppers

Mission
Working as a community to solve and prevent crime.

Purpose
To provide a safe, anonymous and dependable way to report crime solving information free of fear.

Goal
Help the community reduce crime and provide safety to students in and away from school.

Why?

  • To keep crimes from happening in our schools and community.
  • To give students a safe way to report criminal activity or violations of school policy.
  • To give students an active role in the problem solving process.
  • To promote caring and pride in our schools.
  • To develop responsible citizens.

Who?

  • Crime Stoppers is a student run program.  The students advertise the program, publicize recent crimes occurring in the school, and set rewards for information leading to the case being solved.
  • Students do not investigate crimes, nor do they know who the victims or suspects are in the crimes.
  • Board members are not paid for any information they provide.

How?

  • A student that witnesses a crime being committed or has information about a crime contacts the Crime Stoppers sponsor or School Resource Officer.  They may also call the 24 hour Crime Stoppers Hotline.  The tipster remains anonymous.  If the tip leads to the case being solved a cash reward is paid out.

How did Texas Crime Stoppers begin?
On June 10, 1981, House Bill 1681 created a State program to assist local Crime Stoppers programs and was signed into law effective September 1, 1981. The legislation created the Governor's Crime Stoppers Advisory Council within the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor's Office. Texas Crime Stoppers is a special project of this advisory council.
