Requirements:
- $85 Money Order
- Social Security Card
- One valid form of identification from the list below:
- Texas Driver’s License
- Passport
- Military Identification Card or other Federal Government-issued Identification
- Texas Department of Public Safety Photo Identification Card
- Post secondary identification that includes name, date of birth, photograph, Texas address and signature
All identification must be current and show name, date of birth, photograph, Texas address, and signature.
17 Year Old Test Applicants:
An official TEA Parent/Guardian Consent Form and Administration Withdrawal Form is required for a 17-year-old candidate to test.

IMPORTRANT INFORMATION New forms of the GED Tests are expected January 1, 2012. The scores on your test report cannot be combined with the 2012 series of the GED Tests. By December 31, 2011 you must have earned a total passing score of at least 2250 (450 average) with no score less than 410, or you will need to take the entire 2012 series.
Pre Registration
Beginning September 1, 2009 all examinees taking the GED for the first time will be required to complete the on line demographic form prior to registering to take the GED test. The GED Demographic Form is a method for GED test-takers to create their own online record in The University of Texas at Austin (UT) GED database.

After your online GED demographic record is complete, you may attend a registration/orientation session at the Mary Grimes GED Testing Center and take the GED tests.
Registration/Orientation:
- Registration/Orientation is usually on Mondays. When Monday is a holiday, registration is held on Tuesday.
Please check the calendar.
- Registration/Orientation is conducted as a group with the first 20 persons to sign up registering at 8:30 a.m.
If there is space available, there will be another registration/orientation session at 10:00 a.m.
- Registration/Orientation will take between 1.5 - 2 hours.
Test Schedule:
- The first day after registration:
- 8:30 a.m. - Mathmatics
- 11:00 a.m. - Language Arts, Writing
- The second day after registration
- 8:30 a.m. - Science
- 10:15 a.m. - Social Studies
- 12:05 p.m. - Reading
Spanish Testing The GED Test is periodically administered in Spanish. The registration/orientation and the test schedule are the same as those for the English test. Please check the calendar for the scheduled Spanish test dates.
Retesting:
- There is a $20 fee for re-testing.
- There is a 6 month waiting period prior to re-testing unless the person has been attending GED preparation classes and brings a signed letter from the authorized teacher stating that the person is prepared to test.
- No one may test more than 3 times in one year.
Re-scheduling:
- There a $20 fee for re-scheduling.
- Re-registration is required to re-schedule a test.
