Safety Plan

School Safety

Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD has a comprehensive crisis management plan in place. It has been updated, reviewed by staff as well as emergency response personnel, and shared with campus and department staff and with other individuals who may have a role in the event of a crisis. It is our hope that we are overly prepared and do not need to implement the plan. However, we are ready to provide for the safety and security of our students and staff if the need ever arises.

There are some key points that parents should know about the preparedness of Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD officials at our schools:

  • Each campus has an crisis team with identified duties. In the event of a crisis, there will be limited personnel available to answer phone calls from parents, and phone lines may become overextended.
  • Each campus is prepared with a supply kit to ensure student comfort, if needed.
  • Each campus has in-place facility security measures, updated employee emergency call lists, alternative communication capabilities in case one medium is inoperable, and an inventory of emergency supplies and equipment.
  • In the event of a crisis, students will be released to their families as soon as it is safe to do so. Local response personnel will determine when it is safe for the schools to begin releasing students. Only an authorized person as noted on the student forms on file in the office will be able to pick up your child. A driver's license or other form or photo I.D. must be shown before staff can safely release your child. Note that in the event of a crisis, phone calls authorizing a student's release to a person other than a parent or name on file will not be accepted.

Parent Procedures

In order for our emergency response plans to be effective, we must depend on the cooperation and assistance of many people, such as local police and fire departments. We also depend upon the parents of our students to support our efforts. If the need arises to implement these safety protocols, cooperating with campus personnel in a calm manner will ensure safety and welfare of all children and school employees. Therefore, we ask parents to observe the following procedures during a crisis situation:

Do:

  • Visit the district website (you are here!)
  • Tune in to local TV and radio stations for emergency announcements and status reports. The announcements will also include instructions on where, when and how you should pick up your child.
  • Check your phone, email for a message from the Connect-ED notification system.
  • Check your email for a message from the Special Alert e-mail system. Sign up for Special Alerts here...
  • Talk to your children.  Emphasize how important it is for them to follow instructions from their teachers and school officials during an emergency.
  • Carefully read all information you receive from the school, as you may receive updates about safety precautions from time to time.

Do not:

  • Do not telephone the school. We understand and respect your concern, but it is essential that the telephone system be available for emergency communications.
  • Do not come to the school or evacuation location until you are instructed to do so. It may be necessary to keep the streets and parking lots clear for emergency vehicles. If evacuation is required, students may be transported to a location away from the school. You'll be notified of this through a variety of emergency message methods.

Please contact your campus if you have questions about the safety procedures in place.
