Student Information

Responsibility:

  • Research chosen career.
  • Acquire an understanding of the sponsoring   company.
  • Establish a professional relationship with the internship sponsor and coordinator.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills that meet goals and objectives of the program.
  • Display the ability to adjust behavior as    appropriate to the dynamics of the work place.
  • Collect and organize information for a class  presentation of the sponsoring internship.
  • Develop career portfolio as a final project.

Student Credit:

The student is evaluated by the business sponsor and the TIP coordinator. Upon completion of the program, one high school credit is obtained. Internship programs provide the student with invaluable experience and are highly acclaimed by the academic and professional community.

Classroom Structure:

Students selected for the program spend the first two weeks in a classroom environment to prepare them for entry into their chosen internship field. Throughout the semester, students meet on Monday with their coordinator to review progress, discuss concerns and receive related instruction.

Participating business leaders share their ideas and insights as well as a wealth of practical knowledge. Tuesday through Friday, students travel to their training sites where they follow modified, on-the-job procedures carefully designed by school and business sponsors to provide meaningful educational experiences. Students are required to maintain a comprehensive journal covering specific details of their experiences.

Students who wish to participate in TIP must meet the following criteria:

  • Recommendations from three previous teachers.
  • Recommendations from the career and technology counselor for placement by the coordinator.
  • Completion of two years of Mathematics, including Algebra II or Geometry; two years of science; and a computer course or technology course related to the area of internship placement.
  • Parental Permission.
  • Excellent Attendance Record.
