Honoring a Legacy of Love
As an R. L. Turner High School freshman, Kacie Brekhus became involved in the Torch Run, benefiting Special Olympics. As a senior, she served as the student coordinator. Kacie died in a traffic accident in October 2003 while a freshman at The University of Texas at Austin.

Something for Everyone
Mel and Candi Brekhus are the 2012 Presenting Sponsors of Kacie’s Run. “Mel and I wholeheartedly support this event that honors and recognizes Kacie’s involvement in this worthwhile endeavor,” said Candi Brekhus.
“You don’t need to run or even walk to come to this event. Mel and I do neither, but we do come out each year to support the run, Kacie’s project and the district’s Special Olympics All Star Athletes,” she added.
How to show your support
- Participate in the 5K Run or 1 Mile Family Fun Run
- Register your team (friends, co-workers or family) for the 5K race and be eligible for Team Awards
- Become a Friend of Kacie and get your name on the back of the event shirt

March 19, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. - OR – on Race Day (March 24), you can register at Standridge Stadium at 7:00 a.m. ($25.00 Race Day Fee)

Team Spirit Award (wear costumes and show enthusiasm)
Top 3 Male and Female in the following age categories:
12 and under; 13-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59 & over
Chronotrack timing will be used at this event. You must wear a tag to be timed and eligible for awards.
