Blalack Orchestra Booster Club is having its 2nd Annual Mega-Magnificent Garage Sale on October 29th.

DeWitt Perry Robitics Club Tops the List
DeWitt Perry Robotics Club Highest Ranked Middle School at National Competition
The DeWitt Perry Robotics Club finished the competition as the highest ranked middle school and in the top 10 overall in the 2005 National Conference on Educational Robotics and National Botball Conference.

Two DeWitt Perry students James Wahawisan and Jeremy Samuels placed first and second in the robotics Olympiad, a test designed to test engineering, physics and robotics knowledge. Jonathan Malouf won first place in the robotics trivia contest in the middle school division. DeWitt Perry teacher and club coach David Culp won first place in the adult division.

DeWitt Perry Team #1 won the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) award given by the KISS Institute for Practical Robotics for simplicity in design and reliability.

DeWitt Perry also brought more students to the conference than any other school and presented more papers and projects than any other school in the nation. These papers and projects are published in the conference proceedings and every DWP student that attended can call themselves a published author. Of the 261 pages of the conference proceedings, more than one-third of those pages were written by DeWitt Perry students.
The students involved in the national competition are the following: Rachel Reeves, Katy Seloff, Alethea Atkins, Jennifer Long, James Wahawisan, Taiki Nakamura, Bryan Mahony, Michael Frasier, Charlie Foster, Steven Baxter, Evan Yarbrough, Ian Poorman, Ryan Landrum, Jeremy Samuels, Riley Walberg, Jonathan Malouf, and Bryan Mahony.

Charles M. Blalack Student Wins National PTA Reflections Award of Excellence
Allie Shepherd received the Award of Excellence for the Middle-Junior Division in the Reflections program from the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Her photograph, entitled “Buckle Up”, won honors at the local, district, state and national level.

Barbara Bush Band Places First in State Competition
For the second year in a row, the Barbara Bush Symphonic Band took first in the marching category, and placed third and fifth in the symphonic category in the Outstanding Performance Series, sponsored by Association of Texas Small School Bands. The competition is held at the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention in San Antonio each summer. The Symphonic Band advanced to the State level competition by placing first in the marching category, and first and second in the symphonic category at both the region and area competitions held in June.

Perry Symphonic Band Named Best In Class
Friday, April 29th the Perry Symphonic Band earned first division ratings from all judges and was named Outstanding-in-Class at “Springfest in the Murchison” a concert band competition held in the prestigious Murchison Performing Arts Center in Denton. In addition to the Band’s accomplishment the judges also recognized Outstanding Soloists Xochitl Gallegos, Shari Wells, Chris Ayala and Roselle Nnaji were and the Tuba, Euphonium, First Trumpet, Upper Woodwind and Flute Sections.

Blalack Symphonic Orchestra Sweeps Festival
Blalack Symphonic Orchestra received a superior trophy for its first division rating from all three judges at the Lone Star Showcase of Music Festival at the Meyerson. The judges also selected the orchestra as the Best in Class for CCC schools, resulting in another, even bigger trophy. The judges also named the orchestra as the Overall Outstanding Orchestra. Additionally, the judges recognized violin soloist Deborah Ko and cello soloist Kayla Barrera as outstanding, along with the entire first violin, viola and cello sections. 

Blalack Choir Wins Competition
The Blalack Women’s Select Choir recently competed in the American Classics Music Festival at the historic Majestic Theatre in downtown Dallas.  The group received a Sweepstakes award and received a composite score of 94.5 to place Best in Class for Middle School Choirs.  This was the Women’s Select choir’s first time to enter this competition

Ted Polk Students Inducted in Honor Society
The Ted Polk Middle School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society inducted 57 new members this week. To be considered for membership, students must have a 93 average and good conduct.  Congratulations to the following eighth grade students: Yea Eun Han, Jamie Hogge,  Kaleb Mayo, Mallory Hogue,  Hannah Puckett, Vandara Kam, Anna Ruston,  Chelsea Kauffman, Arlene Soto, Kaitlin King, Marino Sy, Jason Kurien, Trey Langley. Long middle school principal announces the “principal’s dream team”
Dan F. Long Middle School principal, Mr. Nick Lasker announced the 2004-2005 members of his “Principal’s Dream Team” on April 22, 2005. Certain requirements had to be met in order to be a part of this “special group of young people”. Those requirements included: The student must be in the 8th grade. The student must have maintained a 92% grade average over five grading periods. These grading periods included both semesters in 6th and 7th grade as well as the fall semester of this school year. Additionally the student must have an excellent attendance record (96% or higher) and has exhibited exemplary conduct this school year.

Based on these standards the following students were named to the 2004-2005 “Principal’s Dream Team”: Amanda Alpiger, Brittany Altom, Nancy Alvarez, Paulina Amador, Vanessa Bogart, Adny Bolano, Sydney Ellis, Daisy Estrada, Emily Everitt, Kelsey Foss, Michelle Gallia, Emily Gore, Jordan Harness, Joey Higgins, June Marie Jumao-As, Drew Johnson, Julie Kaye, Daniel Kemp, Andrew Le, Jessica Le, Yaradely Martinez, Christian Mier, Carolyn Nghe, Christen Noble, Aakash Patel, Stephaine Pupenbroke, Syed Reza, Ariel Sims, Vasil Taskov, Jordan Teasdale, Samantha Thomas, Renee Tran, Pratheesh Varghese, Rebecca Womack, and Alexa Youssef.
