Creekview Band awards
On Oct. 1, the Creekview High School band competed in the annual Tournament of Champions Marching Band contest. From around the state, 25 bands competed at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton, Texas. The Creekview band placed third in the overall competition. The Creekview Color Guard was named Outstanding Guard. The band also finished second in Music and third General Effect Captions.

Chevals fundraisers and events
The Chevals will be taking Pansy orders October 3-14. They will be available for pickup on the morning of Saturday, October 22. Be sure to place your order to add some great Winter color to your landscape.

On October 15, the Chevals will be participating in the Komen Race For The Cure. Come show your support as they work this worthwhile cause.

The Chevals are hosting their annual Community Fall Youth Dance Clinic on Saturday, October 22 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. for young ladies in 1st to 11th grades. The cost is $25 which includes a t-shirt and a light snack. Photo buttons will also be available for $5 each. For more information, please call Lula Walton after 6:00 p.m. at 972-323-1188.

The Chevals would also like to invite everyone to their annual “Winter Wonderland” Live and Silent Auction on Saturday, November 12. Admission to the auction is free. Dinner will be catered by Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant. Dinner tickets may be purchased for $8 from any Cheval in advance. A raffle is underway and will be concluded at the auction. Raffle items include a $500 Visa gift card, $250 savings bond and an Ipod Nano. Raffle tickets are $ 5, also available from any Cheval. You may also purchase dinner and raffle tickets from Annie Hunt at 972-394-9121. While you dine and shop, there will be a variety of acts performing from around the community for your entertainment. There will be lots of opportunities for holiday gift buying, so come and look around. The Chevals are still seeking a few unique donations for the auction. Boys' basketball team receives home team award
The Organization, High School Extra has given the Creekview Boys' Basketball Team the Home Team Award. This award is recognition for what the team does off of the court. For the last few years the Creekview team has collected food items for Bea’s Kids around Thanksgiving. Bea’s Kids is an after school program in Carrollton that provides tutoring and food for children in need. Along with this recognition came a plaque and a $400 check from Discount Tire.

Speech team results
The Creekview High School Speech Team attended its first tournament of the season at Plano Senior High. There were 40 schools in attendance. Creekview took 2nd place sweepstakes overall. Individual placings were as follows:

Marchant honors Creekview art student
Congressman Kenny Marchant recognized Stella Lee, a Creekview High School senior, as the winner of the Congressional High School Art Competition for the 24 th District of Texas. Lee was honored for her ink wash entitled, "Unapproachable". Lee and her family were honored by Congressman Marchant's office with a trip to the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. where her artwork will be on showcase in the halls of the Capitol for the year.

Creekview Orchestra performances
On Oct. 13 at 7:00 p.m., the Creekview High School Orchestra will present a fall concert in the auditorium.

On October 25 at 6:00 p.m., the Creekview High School Orchestra will host the 7th annual "Spaghetti String Dinner," Silent Auction, and Talent Show in the cafeteria. Tickets are $6, including a full chef-prepared dinner, plus admission to all activities (and door-prizes) of the evening. Donations are still being accepted. Ranchview senior is AP scholar
Eric Walker qualified for the Advanced Placement Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

Fall Concerts
The Ranchview Orchestra will perfom in the school cafetorium on Thursday, October 20 at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

The Ranchview Choir will perfom in the school cafetorium on Monday, October 17 at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Newman Smith Debate Team Update
Last weekend the NSHS Debate team competed at its first tournament since hosting Spontaneity, and had an outstanding weekend. The teamed earned 2 more qualifications for the State Championship Tournament.
Individual results are as follows:
Bijal Mehta: 1st place Domestic Extemp, quarterfinalist Lincoln Douglas Debate, she was also selected the best all over speaker in the tournament.
Kelly Lausten: 1st place International Extemp, 3rd place Student Congress, semifinals of Oratory.
Preston Mcglothlin: 3rd place International Extemp.
Lauren Brown, Bonnie Whetstone, Jim McGraw were all in the elimination rounds of Debate. Kim Bednar and Emma Dawson were both finalist in Student Congress.

Newman Smith Debate student places at nationals and wins Degree of Premier Distinction
Newman Smith High School Speech and Debate member, Bijal Mehta, placed fifth at the National Championship Tournament this summer. Mehta has also been awarded the National Forensic League's, Degree of Premier Distinction. It is the highest honor/award a student can receive from the National Forensic League. Mehatl is the second person in the history of Newman Smith High School to receive this award. Leslie Johnson was the first student from Newman Smith to receive this award. 

Newman Smith Student Council blood drive
Newman Smith Student Council will be hosting a Fall Blood Drive on Fri., Oct. 21. The drive will go from 7:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and will be in the upstairs gym. Please make sure to sign in at the main office. If you have any questions please e-mail Sabrina Pace at paces@cfbisd.edu.

Troyann fundraiser
The Newman Smith Troyanns annual Red Wheel Pie sale runs through Oct. 17. The pies will be available for pick-up at Newman Smith High School on Nov. 3 at 3:30 p.m. If you are interested in getting a head start on your holiday cooking and baking needs, please contact any Troyann or Gary Qualls at quallsg@cfbisd.edu or 972-323-4946.

Free concert
On Oct. 18 at 7:00 p.m., the Newman Smith High School Symphonic, Philharmonic, Camerata and Concert orchestras will have a free concert in the school cafeteria.

Troyann dance clinic
The Troyanns will be holding their annual community Dance Clinic, Saturday, December 3 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Students in Kindergarten through 8th Grade are welcome to attend. The cost of $30 includes lunch and a souvenir T-shirt. Brownie/Girl Scout dance badges will be awarded upon request. For early registration please e-mail Cindy Smith at caosmith@aol.com.

A winning combination
The NSHS Trojan Band & Troyanns received the highest score overall, placing 1st in both the marching and music captions, and 2nd in general effect at the 11th Annual Tournament of Champions Marching Festival at Standridge Stadium.

R.L. Turner Theater Department to perform "Frankenstein"
Victor Gialanella's faithful adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic novel will erupt on Turner's stage Halloween weekend. This is a powerful tale of the ill-fated experiments of young Dr. Frankenstein as he attempts to fathom the secrets of life and death. The show runs Thursday, Oct. 27 th through Saturday, Oct. 29 th at 7pm in the R.L. Turner auditorium. Performances are $ 5.00 general admission. Robotics Club accepts donation
R. L. Turner Robotics Club received $1,000 from Halliburton to help support club activities.

Model United Nations Team competition
R. L. Turner’s Model United Nations team competed Sat., Oct. 1 at the Baylor University Model United Nations (BUMUN). Recognized as Distinguished Delegate, freshman Charuta Gavankar, representing the Republic of the Philippines, earned the highest committee award. Senior Pierre Berastain coached the freshmen in the fine points of parliamentary procedure.
